Every year in late spring, the college baseball world descends upon Omaha, Neb., for the College World Series.
That tradition will continue in 2023. But first, 64 teams will compete in the NCAA Division IÂ baseball tournament for the right to play on the grand stage.
There are several stages to the tournament, beginning with Tuesday’s selection show. The Men’s College World Series will begin a little over two weeks after that.

In between are double-elimination regional play and best-of-three super regional series. Once those are concluded, eight schools will be on their way to Omaha.
Here are the starting dates for the NCAA Division I baseball tournament, ending with the Men’s CWS schedule.
When does the Men’s College World Series start in 2023?
- Selection show:Â Monday, May 29
- Regionals: June 2-5
- Super regionals: June 9-11 or 12
- College World Series start:Â Friday, June 16
- College World Series finals: June 24-26
The road to the Men’s College World Series will begin Monday, May 29, with the selection show. The 64 teams in the NCAA Division I baseball tournament will be announced that day.
Following that, the regionals and super regionals will be played from June 2 through June 11 or June 12, depending on when the super regionals end.

The final eight teams will meet at the Men’s College World Series in Omaha, Neb. The best-of-three finals will begin Saturday, June 24.

How does the College World Series work?
The College World Series is an eight-team tournament to decide the NCAA Division I baseball national champion. Teams qualify for it through regional and super regional play.
First, the NCAA baseball tournament field of 64 will be announced during the selection show on Monday, May 29. Regional games will begin Friday, June 2.

The 64 teams are divided into 16, four-team regional brackets. Each regional is a double-elimination tournament. The regional champions will advance to the super regionals.
In the super regionals, the regional winners are paired up in eight best-of-three series. The super regional winners go on to the College World Series in Omaha, the longtime home of the NCAA baseball championship.
The MCWS field is divided into two, four-team brackets in a double-elimination format. The bracket winners will meet in a best-of-three series to determine the national champion.
