Gary Sanchez capped a five-run first inning with the Padres‘ first grand slam house run of the season as San Diego routed the visiting Baltimore Orioles 10-3 on Tuesday.
Padres starter Michael Wacha (9-2) labored 5 scoreless innings in his first trip since July 1. The proper-hander, who was once activated pregame after convalescing from shoulder irritation, allowed 3 hits and a stroll whilst placing out 5. Wacha threw 77 pitches.
Orioles starter Jack Flaherty, previously Wacha’s teammate with the St. Louis Cardinals, gave up seven runs in 3 innings. Flaherty, who fell to 8-8 general and 1-2 with the Orioles, yielded 4 hits and 4 walks whilst fanning 3.
Ha-Seong Kim doubled to open the ground of the primary ahead of Flaherty retired the following two Padres. Alternatively, Flaherty then walked the following 3 Padres — Manny Machado, Xander Bogaerts and Jake Cronenworth — to power within the first run. Sanchez then drove a 1-1 fastball 380 toes into the seats in right-center for his sixteenth homer of the season to make it 5-0.
