TheĀ American Century Championship is an annual golf competition for celebrities which takes place at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Nevada.
The competition has been running since 1990 and became popular after three hall of famers from different sports opted to compete – basketball’s Michael Jordon, American football’s John Elway and ice hockey’s Mario Lemieux.
The American Century Championship is a three-round compeition, with players scored using Modified Stableford scoring rather than the traditional stroke play method seen in most golf competitions.
WHO IS CURRENTLY LEADING?
This year, four time NBA champion Steph Curry leads the way after two rounds. The Golden State Warriors point guard has proven to be equally as adept with a golf club, hitting a hole in one of the seventh hole during the second round on Saturday.
Tied for second place is former number one American tennis player Mardy Fish, who is level onĀ 47 points – three behind Curry – with alternate captain for NHL’s Dallas Stars Joe Pavelski.
They are nine points clear of two-time MLB All Star Mark Mulder and actor Jack Wagner, who is most famous for his role as Frisco Jones on the long-running soap operaĀ General Hospital.
Mulder has previously won the competition on three occasions, while Wagner is a two-time American Centrury Championship winner.
The highest ranked former NFL star is ex-Rams and Colts running back Marshall Faulk who sits one point behind Mulder and Wagner, while country singer Jake Owen is a further point behind Faulk.
Reigning champion Tony Romo is currently tied for 12th position with other NFL stars Aaron Rodgers and Brian Urlacher.
The NFL’s current MVP, Patrick Mahomes, is finding golf more challenging than being a quarterback as he sits back in 57th, however he is ahead of Kansas City Chiefs team-mate Travis Kelce in 66th.
After two rounds the leaderboard is propped up by Dylan Dreyer, who is taking time away from her regular role as NBC’s meteorologist, as well as former NFL linebacker DeMarcus Ware and WWE star ‘The Miz’.
