The Magic of Science Fair and Family Festival 2023 will kick off with a regional science fair for middle school students starting at 8 a.m., culminating in an awards ceremony at 3 p.m. Concurrently, the Family Festival will begin at 11 a.m., turning into a “carnival of science” until 4 p.m.

Attendees can look forward to an immersive day of science-based fun and exploration featuring a “Discovery Zone” play area, a petting zoo, hands-on science experiments, and over 40 scientific exhibits. Other attractions include robotic demonstrations, food trucks, entertainment, and a middle-school science fair.

The event boasts sponsorships from SURVICE Engineering, APG Federal Credit Union, Harford Community College, Harford County Public Library, and the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

The Discovery Center is currently in its first construction phase, focusing on a 6,000-square-foot “Preview” Center at the Water’s Edge complex. The venue is set to open in early Summer of 2023. Future expansion plans include the addition of 4,000 square feet of space in 2025, with an expected 55,000 visitors each year. Ultimately, the center aims to expand to a 35,000-square-foot facility, serving 100,000 visitors annually.
