Jackson business focuses on health, wellness and self-defense


A Mississippi man from Wisconsin has opened his dream business: Boxer’s Rebellion. The business focuses on health, wellness and defense using martial arts and boxing techniques. Jeremy Gordon is the owner of Boxer’s Rebellion on State Street in Jackson. Gordon said part of his teachings is about centering ourselves and building mental discipline. “Martial arts training teaches us simplified things in life, simplified things in the ring,” said Gordon.The teachings may be simple, but the kicks, punches and flexibility to do the sport is mentally and physically challenging.Gordon has traveled the world and worked beside big names like Floyd Mayweather Sr. and Ted Wong, who was Bruce Lee’s sparring partner. Since moving to Jackson in 2016, Gordon has had one goal in mind: to spread a legacy. “MMA wasn’t here. There were no MMA schools in Jackson. There were no kickboxing schools in Jackson at the time,” said Gordon. “As I travel across the world and learn martial arts, learn systems, learn different aspects of discipline, I wanted to bring that back here.”Before starting Boxer’s Rebellion, Gordan ran a martial arts program at Jackson State University. Gordon said he has a vision to bring more variety to sports in Mississippi. “We have basketball here; we have football here. We don’t have wrestling other than for the school of deaf and blind. We don’t have a lot of avenues to express ourselves,” said Gordon.In a world where social media apps like TikTok, Instagram and Facebook consume the minds of a young generation, Gordon said he can’t help but think how much Mississippians could use martial arts. “If we can teach the next generation, ‘ hey when you have a problem, let’s talk about it,’” said Gordon.
