“Don’t Stick Around and Stand Over”: Fitness Icon Joey Swoll Schools Fans on ‘Gym Etiquette 101’

The spearhead of the gym positivity movement, Joey Swoll, often acclaims gym-goers who lend a helping hand while outrightly criticizing wrong gym habits. Swoll recently added another video to his series on gym etiquette, the 101 version. Posting the video on Twitter, the 40-year-old guides his followers to follow a decent approach while wanting to know the number of sets left of a gym-mate.

The video also has a clip of him enacting the wrong way and then demonstrating the right way of asking how many sets are left by a fellow gym-goer. Swoll never misses a chance to educate his followers to build a better gyming community and the video is an effort in that direction.

At the beginning of the clip, a man was seen annoyed for being asked how many sets were left by a woman. The woman was defending herself saying she was polite while asking. Swoll appeared in the video the next moment and stated,” A little gym etiquette for you guys. There is absolutely nothing wrong in politely asking somebody how many sets they have left.”

But he cautions to be respectful while doing so. He also lists a few things that are a big no-no while enquiring about the number of sets at the gym. “You don’t rush them, you don’t stick around, and stand over them until they finish,” he adds, educating his fans.

Swoll suggests posing such inquiry only between sets. He captioned the video as, ”GYM ETIQUETTE 101: Asking someone how many sets they have left.” Swoll became a gym positivity advocate a couple of years back after witnessing the rise in negative gym content on the internet.

The fitness coach to gym positivity influencer

The self-proclaimed ‘CEO of Gym Positivity’ was tired of constant bullying and mockery at the gym. Swoll observes that gyms have turned into places of constant filming. And he opines, “A lot of their content has become, ‘Let me get likes and attention at the expense of someone else,‘” per New York Post.
