GREENWICH — A company in the music-publishing and royalty business is eyeing the site of a Greenwich Avenue hunting and outdoor gear business that closed more than two years ago.
The former site of EuroChasse at 398 Greenwich Ave. is at a prime location on lower Greenwich Avenue that somehow has remained vacant since the store shuttered. EuroChasse, run by Hani Hafez and his wife, Marilyn, had been in operation at the store off Railroad Avenue since the 1990s. A message sent to the EuroChasse email account was not returned. The website says they are doing business on-line and looking for a re-opening.
An application has been put forward at the town planning department by new owners of the building to expand the bottom by adding an addition at the rear. The development team is also verifying that office uses on the two upper floors of the building were permitted by town planning authorities, in writing.
The application is being proposed by Crazy Goodies LLC, doing business as Round Hill Music. That company is in the music-publishing and royalty business, according to its website. The new ownership team bought the property for $3.05 million in late 2020, according to the property-tax card filed with the application.
The application letter by engineer Anthony D’Andrea is not specifying the kind of operation that the development team is proposing, other than to state, “Crazy Goodies is proposing to construct a small addition of approximately 306 square feet to extend the first floor retail use.” The one-story addition would be built in the rear of the building, which dates to 1900.
According to an earlier employment advertisement on a music industry job site seeking applications for a store manager, the planned Greenwich store would provide “an upscale music retail experience for lovers of music.” The ad on the Music Business Jobs site said the store would sell “new and used vinyl, high end apparel, high end T-shirts and other music related fashion items,” as well as guitars and electronic equipment.
A real-estate executive working on the project, Gil Ohls, declined comment until the permitting process was completed. A message left with Round Hill Music was not returned.
The application has not yet been schedule for a preliminary review by the Planning & Zoning Commission.
