LAFAYETTE, Ind. – An all-inclusive sports field, what Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski has described as a “labor of love” between the city and Caterpillar Inc., will be dedicated Sunday.
The CAT Park All-Inclusive Sports Field will be officially dedicated at 5:45 p.m. Sunday at 3630 McCarty Lane in Lafayette. Ground was broken more than a year ago, April 2022, on a project that Roswarski said at the time would “provide access to those individuals wanting to experience the joy of playing a sport on a custom field to meet their abilities.”
The dedication, to be held after the 5 p.m. Tippy Stars game, will include remarks from Mayor Roswarski, Claudine Laufman, Lafayette parks superintendent, and Paul Rivera, Caterpillar, Inc.’s vice president of facility operations in Large Power Systems Division.
Light refreshments will be served, and food trucks will be at the park from 4-7 p.m. Guests are invited to stay for the 6 p.m. Tippy Stars game.
Features of the all-inclusive sports field include: poured-in place rubber surfacing; two dugouts; a covered announcer’s booth; and spectator seating. The field’s surface material is ADA compliant, providing individuals with all levels of physical abilities the opportunity to participate.
Among the sports the field space can host include baseball, softball and soccer, a release stated.
